The Ottawa Science Policy Network (OSPN) applauds the commitment to supporting next-generation researchers shown in Budget 2024. The additional $825 million committed to federal scholarships and awards over the next 5 years will make a real difference to many graduate students and postdoctoral scholars - enabling them to focus on their research rather than financial worries.
OSPN also welcomes the broader investment in science through increased funding for research grants, recognizing that the vast majority of next-generation researchers do not receive direct federal support. These investments will strengthen Canada’s pipeline of highly qualified talent in an increasingly competitive world, and enable more researchers to see a future for themselves in Canada.
